—
Valentine’s Day Tankas
The dungeon of our
nightmares, when the light’s on, is
just the basement of
our dreams: granola, books, pool
table. Our safe word: thank fuck.
How do I love thee?
There are too many ways to count.
From tat to tat, those
lips I fall into, our hands
like a lock that only opens.

Tomás Q. Morín is the author of the poetry collection My Favorite Things and the novel Cat Love, as well as the memoirs Where Are You From: letters to my son and Let Me Count the Ways. He is a fellow of the Guggenheim Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts. He teaches at Rice University.
