Pretty Lace

Cyanotype photograms of archival lace, dating back to the 1800's on handmade paper varying of repurposed textile and cellulose material.

My name is Sanela Sabic and I am a current sophomore in Photography at KCAI, soon to be major plus of Fiber my Junior year. I use photography and fibrous materials in tandem to illustrate personal narratives. Photography has drawn me to chemical and digital processes to create tangible work that inspires reflection of the self and surroundings; responding to past experiences, merging both surreal and realistic imagery to ground complex understandings of the past as a way to heal. I draw towards other complex themes of domesticity, cultural assimilation and dissociation, feminism and more. Textile has been a tool for me to combine modern, such as photography, and traditional practices: using analog and digital photography to ultimately become an image taking up space.
