We chose Kabel Mishka Ligot's work for our first-ever Editors Prize for the simple fact that his poetry seems to effortlessly raise some of the central issues of our day artfully and in an inviting way. So much today is divisive and is built to exclude. Not so with his poetry. If art can manage to stay inclusive in these times, it will rise. At least this poet's example serves to give us hope that this is so.
Check out Mishka's interview here on The Growler, and listen to him over at The Slowdown.
